PAPALIN 10 Year Old Reunion, 50% ABV

Papalin is a project dedicated to blends conceived by Luca Gargano. The idea stems from a desire to return to the history of rum in the late 1800s, when Jamaican traders began to make blends, without indicating which distilleries they came from. Tropical blends have gradually disappeared since the 1970s, when distilleries began selling their products: Papalin therefore intends to return to the oldest tradition. The aim is to unite rums from a single island that have been totally produced and aged at distilleries. The first release was dedicated to Jamaica: Papalin Jamaica.

This Papalin is made from a blend of one high-ester rum and three traditional rums entirely aged in French oak casks, from the Reunion island. Fantastic blend.

Nose: Elegant and complex. The journey begins with a stunning duo of zesty orange and rich dark chocolate, promising a remarkable tasting experience. As it opens up, the aroma deepens wonderfully with layers of overripe mango, striking mineral notes like wet slate, and a intriguing whisper of classic hydrocarbons.

Palate: Noble and invigorating. The orange from the nose bursts onto the palate, releasing a wave of tangy, fresh juice. The heart of the taste becomes more earthy and root-driven, with distinct notes of spicy ginger and bitter gentian, balanced by a sweet, indulgent wave of warm sugarcane. The exit is finely detailed with the taste of a fresh apricot and its stone.

Finish: Long and refined. The finish weaves together all the previous fruit notes into a powdery, elegant tapestry of cocoa and red tea. Flavors of toffee and oak build a substantial, satisfying weight, while a natural, fibrous sugarcane character keeps it fresh and authentically vegetal to the very end.
