Established in 1821 by Peter Brown, Linkwood Distillery was completely rebuilt in 1872. Nearly a century later, in 1971, the adjoining Linkwood N distillery was constructed, operating alongside the original site until the latter’s closure in 1996. Celebrated worldwide for its elegant and minimalist style, this exceptional single malt embodies Linkwood’s hallmark finesse. Remarkably well-balanced, it masterfully showcases a complex and lyrical spectrum of flavors and aromas.
Color: Orangey copper.
Nose: Exquisitely refined and smooth, the nose opens with floral notes of lavender and violet alongside mineral touches of liquorice zan sweets and basalt. A rich fruity rancio (candied orange, mango, apricot) adds depth and smoothness, complemented by hints of salted butter caramel and toffee. As it breathes, the aroma becomes more heady, with delicate notes of peppered rose emerging.
Palate: Full-bodied and rich, the palate surprises with its power and captivating presence. Vegetal and malty, it evokes harvest-time imagery with hints of straw and lucerne. Exotic nuances of guava and mango blend seamlessly with floral tones of purple lilac and freesia, while delicate rose petals enhance its oriental charm.
Finish: Long and sumptuous, the finish boasts a silky texture with flavors of liquorice stick, salted butter caramel, caraway, and the smoky allure of a Havana cigar. Spices like clove and nutmeg add vibrancy, while a subtle dust-like quality lends a poetic touch. The empty glass reveals notes of beeswax, apricot stone, and the polished patina of antique furniture, leaving an impression of timeless sophistication.
