IICHIKO Kogane no Imo Shochu, 25% ABV
Iichiko Shochu is a well-known brand of Japanese shochu, a traditional distilled spirit that originates from Japan. Shochu is typically made from ingredients such as barley, sweet potatoes, rice, brown sugar, or buckwheat, and it is a popular beverage in Japan, often enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or mixed with water.
Iichiko Shochu is typically made from 100% barley (mugi), which gives it a smooth and light flavor profile. The brand is renowned for producing high-quality shochu that is both accessible and versatile, making it a favorite among both casual drinkers and connoisseurs. Iichiko is crafted in Oita Prefecture on Kyushu Island, a region known for its rich history of shochu production.
The Iichiko Hitajyoryusho Kogane No Imo Shochu, however, is made from sweet potatoes (Imo) and uses white koji to mellow out its flavour, and a normal pressure distillation process to bring out the sweet potatoes’ flavour. The initial nose has the distinctive note of roasted grains and sweet potato, while the taste has a luscious sweetness which leaves behind a crisp, dry finish.
