AMRUT Peated Cask Strength, 62.8% ABV
AMRUT Peated Cask Strength, 62.8% ABV
The Amrut Peated Cask Strength is a cross-pollination of 'geographical indicators' as they call it in the world of alcohol to give credit to the geography that helped create what's in the bottle, with this expression being a testament to Scottish (barley and peat) and Indian (distillation and maturation) provenance as it was distilled from Scottish barley that has been malted and dried in an intense peat kiln at Port Ellen.
And yet another example that challenges what we think we may know about age and alcohol strength, for its young tenure in the cask coupled with powerful alcoholic strength allows it to be vibrant and energetic without being too harsh.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Gristy smoked barley, kippers with a salted butter, peppered bite.
Taste : The delivery is youthful and barely reaching puberty then suddenly an intensely malty ascendancy followed by a healthy dose of drier oaks.
Finish : A sublime finale for its sheer delicacy and elegance; the peat no more than oozes, notes of roasted meat and finally, as a bourbony trail is discovered, soft liquorice and molassed sugar - easily the highlight of the experience: one of the best finishes of the year.

Serving Suggestions
First things first, be comfortable, relaxed and free from distractions. Pour a healthy amount (15-25ml) into a nosing glass (e.g., glencairn) and let it sit for a while. We recommend a minute of resting in the glass for every year in the cask. Otherwise, let it settle down for 5-10 minutes at least.
Help yourself to a 'warm up malt' in the meantime - something simple to open up the palate. When ready, start nosing the whisky, followed by sipping it (noting how it arrives on your palate and its development), and finally the finish. Take your time to get to know the spirit, noting its expression, character, depth, complexity and flavours. These can all change with adding drops of water so play around to find different sides of the spirit and identity a personal sweet spot for yourself!
But always remember, the best way to drink it is the way you like it!
