AMRUT Intermediate Sherry, 57.1% ABV
AMRUT Intermediate Sherry, 57.1% ABV
The Amrut Intermediate Sherry, as the name suggests, employs a rather unique way of maturation; first aged in Bourbon casks before being transferred to Sherry casks and then back to Bourbon casks.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Instead of the usual biscuit aroma, we now get moist cake. And my word: is it fruity and spicy!! Love the freshly waxed oak floor, too. Brain-explodingly complex and multi-layered with one of the most intriguing sherry-style-bourbon-style marriages on the market;
Taste : Cracking delivery and entirely unique in form. The structure is decidedly oak-based, but acts as no more than a skeleton from which the juicy sultana and spices drape. Salivating, too, as the barley kicks in powerfully. But the liquorice-orangey-honeycomb bourbon theme quietly shapes the flavour profile; the spices pulse and glow;
Finish : Quite a chunk of natural caramel quietens the more exuberant characteristics; long and elegant.

Serving Suggestions
First things first, be comfortable, relaxed and free from distractions. Pour a healthy amount (15-25ml) into a nosing glass (e.g., glencairn) and let it sit for a while. We recommend a minute of resting in the glass for every year in the cask. Otherwise, let it settle down for 5-10 minutes on average.
Help yourself to a 'warm up malt' in the meantime - something simple to open up the palate. When ready, start nosing the whisky, followed by sipping it (noting how it arrives on your palate and its development), and finally the finish. Take your time to get to know the spirit, noting its expression, character, depth, complexity and flavours. These can all change with adding drops of water so play around to find different sides of the spirit and identity a personal sweet spot for yourself!
But always remember, the best way to drink it is the way you like it!
