Spirits That Pair Surprisingly Well With Mooncakes

Spirits That Pair Surprisingly Well With Mooncakes

The Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner, its the time of the year again where family, friends and colleagues embark on a frenzy to secure the best hotel mooncakes for personal enjoyment or gift-giving, and if nothing else, the boxes that come with it make quite the seasonal dining table decor every year.

Old Moon Spirits admin does have pretty slow fingers but we managed to order some to try for ourselves!

When it comes to mooncakes it can be broadly place in two categories:

  1. Sweet (from traditional - lotus paste, red bean etc, to modern - snow skin, ice creams etc)
  2. Savoury (salted egg yolks, minced pork (yes) etc)

And while we have to admit that white wines make an excellent pairing option; for its crispness, acidity and citrusy notes that cuts through the contrasting sweetness and thickness of mooncakes beautifully, the spirits below offer equally great experiences and are probably not the usual suspects you hear about.

Here are some interesting spirits that goes well with mooncakes and why!

  2. NADAR Gin, 43% ABV
  3. KYRO Peat Smoke, 47.2% ABV
